The Power Of "I Can!"
About 15 years ago, I was working as an enrichment associate, for an afterschool program. I wrote an educational rap for a group of 3rd-graders, called “Yes, I Can!” Three years later, I was asked to teach the children at my church the same song, and it was defiantly a memorable moment. I remember teaching the song to students, every time I had the chance.
The words, “I Can,” are so powerful.
It became more real to me, as I sat down to take my teacher certification test. I remember feeling the anxiety of failure trying to creep in. I remember thoughts of doubt flooding my mind while trying to answer the questions. Passing that test, determined whether I was going to start my internship that following Monday morning. I remembered praying and asking God to bring everything that I had studied, back to my remembrance. At that moment, the very song that I wrote, “I Can”, was ringing loud in my mind.
“I Can….I Can….I Can…Yes I can.” At that moment, all of the doubt, all of the fear left. I passed my test that day and started my internship on that following Monday.
When you feel like you are defeated, and the pressures of life are weighing you down, you have to believe in the power of “I Can.”
As a matter of fact, you fill in the blank. “I Can…. make good grades.” “I Can…. make it, after my divorce.” “I Can raise my kids with values.” I Can control my temper.” Know that You Can!
I designed a new t-shirt to serve as an inspirational reminder of the fact that "I Can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13, KJV)
